The Outsider (or The Stranger) -- Albert Camus

One of the stand-out greats. Simply written but complex ideas and moral questions. A good read , we all agreed.

The Third Policeman -- Flann O'Brien

A definite Marmite  book  - half hated it and half rated it highly...No accounting for taste.
An absurdist adventure into Death.. or just absurd

The Ghost Writer -- Philip Roth

The majority enjoyed this one. It may be self-indulgent - a writer writing about a writer about a writer....

City of Thieves -- David Benioff

A readable but odd book . Farce and cruelty  set in WW2 - read like a film  but not one I would see.

The Hand that First Held Mine -- Maggie O'Farrell

A divided group -most thought it OK if flawed, some very engaged and one hated it.

The End of Days -- Jenny Erpenbeck

This divided us. Two or three really liked it.,  some couldn't get on with it.
A  poetic book that is  "literary" novel

Capital -- John Lanchester

Rather stock predictable characters but an engaging easy read, No great insights by the end of it
