David Lodge - Changing Places

Amusing and a bit show-off with each chapter in a different style . Still relevant satire if a bit dated.

William Boyd- Restless

A good yarn, some interest but not entirely convincing . Very "filmic".

James Baldwin -Another Country

A bit over-long and very brutal  in parts , but a great read - We all rated it highly.

Claudia Pineiro A Crack in the Wall

We enjoyed this . Plot twists that work. Characters one can  see...Recommended

The Unspeakable Skipton Pamela Hansford Johnson

An anti-hero  centre stage . Hardly any likeable characters  but worth a read  for the period setting and ( self-imposed) desperation of his life

Yasunari Kawabata : The Rainbow

An understated Japanese novel set after WW2. don't mention the war...more to it than at first seems

Burnt Sugar ... Avni Doshi

Good , although as usual, not as good as the reviews suggest. Difficult to like the narrator at first.

Mothers and daughters ...!
